Bachelor’s Button Jubilee is a beloved heirloom cornflower that blankets the garden in true periwinkle-blue and white, frilly small blooms, an All-America Selections silver medal winner from 1937 that still earns its keep today. Semi-dwarf plants typically stand about 16 to 24 inches tall with airy silver-green foliage, blooming generously from late spring into summer and even longer with regular deadheading. Easy from seed and tolerant of poor soil, light frosts when young, and dry spells once established, it is a dependable choice for sunny borders, cutting beds, and pollinator plantings. The edible petals add a confetti-bright touch to salads and desserts, and the flowers dry beautifully for long-lasting arrangements. Let a few heads mature, and it will often self-sow, returning with another wave of cheerful blue the following season.
