Neither a blackberry nor a lily, this plant produces iris-like leaves topped by orange flowers with red spots, followed by seed pods containing berry-like seeds.
This easy to grow, first year flowering perennial has sword-shaped, iris-like leaves and beautiful 2 inch, freckled golden-orange flowers. It is native to China and Japan, but naturalizes easily here in North America. After blooming, shiny black seed clusters that resemble blackberries appear. Both flowers and seed clusters are superb for cutting. Blooms over a long period in August and September.
