Originally released commercially by the late H. W. Alfrey of Knoxville, Tennessee, he named the variety for its obvious similarity in appearance to the male anatomical part. The peppers are quite the conversation starters! The heat is similar to that of a serrano pepper and is excellent for salsa or drying and grounding for chili powder!
