Juicy, tender flesh delivers a rich sweetness with hints of caramel, fruit, and an occasional smoky depth, making this variety as memorable for flavor as it is for color. Fruits that shine in fresh slices and cook down into an unusually luscious sauce.
Uluru Ochre is a Dwarf Tomato Project treasure, selected by Patrina Nuske Small from the Rosy line (Orange Heirloom crossed with Rosella Purple) and named for Australia’s Uluru, whose stone colors echo in the fruit. Compact, indeterminate “tree-type” plants with sturdy stems and rugose, regular leaves reach about 3 to 4 feet tall and need support when loaded with heavy clusters. The medium to large, slightly ribbed oblate tomatoes typically run 6 to 12 ounces (about 150 to 450 g) and ripen to a rare orange-green ochre, often reading as a black-orange blend with green-tinged shoulders. Juicy, tender flesh delivers a rich sweetness with hints of caramel, fruit, and an occasional smoky depth, making this variety as memorable for flavor as it is for color. Expect an early to midseason harvest, often around 65 to 80 days from transplant, with fruits that shine in fresh slices and cook down into an unusually luscious sauce.
