Sailor’s Luck is a potato-leaf tomato bred by Jason Haynes from Vintage Wine and Black Ethiopian, prized for its bold striping and rich, satisfying flavor. Indeterminate vines are vigorous and productive, typically ripening in about 75 days from transplant and rewarding good staking with steady midseason harvests. The mid-sized fruits are oval to plum-shaped with a slight heart-like taper, usually around 30 to 90 grams, and they color up a deep burgundy purple with metallic green striping that can warm toward bronze as they fully mature. Inside you will find meaty, juicy flesh with a sweet, full tomato taste that works beautifully for slicing, salads, roasting, and quick sauces. The fruit also holds well after picking, so you can savor that dramatic color and flavor a little longer.
