How We Grow at Renegade Acres

For more than 15 years, Renegade Acres has grown plants, seeds, and produce using careful, soil-first farming practices. Long before certification existed on our farm, we were committed to growing in ways that protect soil health, biodiversity, and the quality of the food we produce.

Beginning in 2026, Renegade Acres will no longer participate in the USDA organic certification program. This is an administrative change only. The way we farm is not changing.

Our Growing Practices

We continue to grow using the same natural methods and inputs we have relied on for years.

Our farm uses:

  • OMRI-listed and certified organic soil amendments and fertilizers ONLY
  • Locally managed, organically allowed compost and soil
  • Organic fertility sources like fish emulsion, kelp, and composted plant material
  • Natural pest management strategies including beneficial insects and habitat diversity

When pest or disease pressure requires intervention, we rely only on products permitted in organic production, such as:

  • Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) for caterpillar control
  • Spinosad for certain insect pests
  • Neem oil and Baking Soda to combat fungal disease
  • Diatomaceous earth and Koalin Clay to control beetle and hard-body pests

We never use:

  • Synthetic herbicides
  • Synthetic insecticides
  • Synthetic fertilizers
  • GMO seeds or plants

Healthy soil remains the foundation of everything we grow.

What Is Changing

The only change is that Renegade Acres will no longer maintain third-party organic certification or use the USDA Organic seal. Because of this, our products will not be labeled as certified organic.

What Is Not Changing

The standards we follow.

The care we give our soil.

The way we grow our plants.

Our farm has always been guided by long-term stewardship of the land and a commitment to growing the healthiest plants possible.

We believe transparency matters. If you ever have questions about how we grow, what we use, or the practices we follow, we are always happy to talk.

Thank you for supporting Renegade Acres and for supporting small farm.
