The Aviuri tomato, a striking Russian variety, emerged in the early 1990s and was first introduced in the Seed Savers 1997 Yearbook by Glenn Drowns of the USA. The name 'Aviuri' is a nod to its original breeder. These tomatoes are known for their unique round shape and vibrant red color with eye-catching golden stripes. They weigh an average of 4 to 6 ounces, offering a tasty and firm flesh with a subtle sweet flavor. The semi-indeterminate plants, characterized by their regular foliage, begin to yield above-average harvests starting mid-season. Notably, Aviuri plants are more vigorous than other 'tiger-striped' varieties, reaching about five feet in height.
