White Half Runner was first seen in seed catalogs in 1825 and was brought over by the early German settlers to the Carolinas. They have a distinctively sweet, rich flavor and yield early with or without support. These plants produce heavy amounts of tender green pods, 4½" long that are excellent fresh, frozen or canned. Runner beans’ pretty flowers are also edible and have a distinct bean flavor; they also attract hummingbirds. Like other beans they are an outstanding source of protein.
