Antico Ravenna, also known as Cuore Antico di Ravenna or “Ancient Heart of Ravenna,” is an old Italian heirloom from Ravenna in Emilia Romagna that produces chocolate brown, heart to pear-shaped fruits with a dark green neck and green shoulders. Midseason plants mature in about 80 days from transplant and grow indeterminate with regular leaves, so give them sturdy staking or caging for a long, generous harvest. The meaty flesh is dense with relatively few seeds and delivers a rich, well-balanced sweetness with a gentle smoky depth. Noted for excellent crack resistance and strong late-season performance, these tomatoes shine sliced fresh, roasted, or cooked down into a thick, intensely flavored sauce.
