Developed by the Burgess Seed and Plant Company of Galesburg, Michigan, and introduced in 1955, the 'Burgess Mammoth Wonder' is a product of traditional breeding methods. It took eight generations of selective breeding to perfect this variety. Its lineage is quite remarkable, being a cross between the 'Marglobe', 'Bonny Best', and an unidentified pink uniform-color variety.
This variety is known for its high yield of perfectly round and blemish-free medium-sized red fruits, typically weighing between 6 to 14 ounces. The largest fruits can even reach up to 15 ounces. A distinctive feature of these tomatoes is the absence of a core or shoulders, coupled with nice, juicy flesh that maintains its integrity when sliced.
